been feeling less and less safe in the city. don’t even venture down to the sugar factory park since there’s always police lights flashing. an art-schooly yeshiva girl got raped just down the block from where I live. all of her special pencils were scattered everywhere.
as i’m sure you’re aware, anti-semitism is on the rise in America. just feels like i CAN’T. GET. AIR. this would all have been fine for me before because I’ve always thought of Israel as my home, or a safe place for Jews from Dubuque like me when renewed hatred for Jews arises (and don’t think it won’t!).
seriously, after my birthright trip 2 years ago, I feel like Israel is my home away from home. but now Israel feels more imperiled than ever. it really is true what Bibi says: they are trying to drive us into the sea.
this morning there was such a long line for coffee and I got splashed by gross water from a bus driving through a puddle of water on kent st., and my one flicker of Hope has gone out. our very future as a people is at stake.
